Title: Linux Systems Engineer

Summary:
We're looking for an experienced Linux System Engineer who enjoys solving problems and building new things using a combination of creativity and technical rigor. You don't have to know everything (that's why you're on a team), but we do expect good judgement and a desire to learn. The team you will be on is focused on data center consolidation, as well as supporting DC-centric core services such as DNS, configuration management, virtualization and containerization platforms, centralized storage, backups, ELK and Graphite, and data center facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a Linux-based ecommerce environment with about 2500 servers
- Help migrate on-premise workloads to public cloud
- Collaborate with developers to architect and enhance production application deployments
- Monitor service performance and plan for future scaling
Requirements:
- 5-10 years or more of UNIX/Linux system administration experience
- Experience supporting highly available, customer-facing services in a 100+ server environment
- Operational automation skills using shell, Perl, or Python
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
- Experience with open source server software such as Apache, Memcache, or Kafka
- PHP, Java, MySQL
- Customer-focused mindset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to balance competing priorities
Nice-to-have experience:
- Operational familiarity with configuration management systems such as CFEngine and Salt
- Experience with production cloud deployments (GCP preferred, AWS)
- Experience configuring hardware load balancers (F5 preferred)
